Unique Shading Application
to Maximize Amazing Views

Custom tensioned shades follows the angled roof line to maximize natural light.

Background

This home was designed for an artist who wanted to showcase her original works on a large video display. This home has large, angled windows that follow the unique roofline to showcase the waterfront views.

The challenge

Create modern convenience with technology without detracting from the gorgeous natural scenery or home design. Create a custom shading application that would protect surfaces from UV damage and manage heat and glare. Provide the homeowner with an easy-to-use interface to manage lighting, shading, security, temperature and more. Create an art display (larger than standard televisions offered) that is designed for a space filled with natural light and can display one large piece, or many individual pieces.

The goals

  • Install shades that rise from below to follow the angled roof line
  • Combine a grid of smaller TVs with thin bezels into a single interface for TV and large art viewing, that can be separated when the client wants to feature multiple art pieces.
  • Simplify lighting control over the expansive property with clean and easy to understand keypads
  • Multiple zones of automated temperature control
  • Comprehensive security/surveillance that is accessible locally or from a mobile device
  • Unify all technology control into a single application with multiple interfaces (touchpanel, mobile app etc).

Our approach

Custom Details For the Perfect Design

This home has large, angled windows that follow the unique roofline to showcase the waterfront views. These can be challenging for window treatments, but Wipliance's team installed custom Lutron roller shades that raise from below with a tensioned system to protect furnishings and shield the home from UV glare. In bedrooms, Wipliance installed Lutron's Palladiom Wirefree shading system for a clean and modern aesthetic.

This home was designed for an artist who wanted to showcase her original works on a large video display. With the amount of natural light, a projector wasn't the right fit- so Wipliance created a custom video wall of 9 Sony TV's that are the perfect fit for this bright viewing space. Individual art pieces can be shown together or the screens can be unified for TV viewing from any angle.

Built to entertain, this home features several zones of audio. For the primary media center, a Triad subwoofer and Leon sound bars create a seamless look that blends with the room's design. Origin Acoustics in-ceiling and landscape speakers allow the music to carry from indoors to the amazing backyard entertaining spaces. With outdoor audio, it is critical to have well-designed speaker placement so that sound stays low and local and doesn't disturb neighbors or reflect off the water.

For additional peace of mind, IC Realtime security cameras are positioned throughout that can be managed from several easy to access interfaces both in the home and wherever the homeowner is. Wipliance also installed remote temperature sensors so that the thermostats aren't visible, but the home stays cool and comfortable. All of these systems are easily managed with a single app and interface thanks to the Control4 automation system. Lights, shades, TV/audio, cameras, temperature and more are all easily controlled together from any location. Time-based events and scheduled scenes allow the homeowner to focus on enjoying her home and creating her art. We love seeing projects like these come together for delighted clients.

Comments from the team:

"This home is a canvas for the artist who lives here. Our challenge was to blend the technology with the nature that surrounds us."
