High-Tech Houseboat

Blending modern technology with amazing views on this floating home with underwater media room. 

Background

Situated in Seattle's famous Lake Union, this incredible houseboat features three stories (plus a rooftop access) and an underwater bonus room. The homeowner wanted to create the perfect space for entertaining with show-stopping design, and one-touch convenience for day-to-day technology.

The challenge

Incorporate unique design elements such as an LED focal wall art piece, which required multiple trades coordinating to deliver on the vision for the designer. Wipliance partnered with Ariana Designs to ensure seamless installation of the project. 

The goals

  • Retrofit wired shades in common areas of the home for glare control.
  • Relocate lighting control/wall clutter that was in the way of the LED art wall, install occupancy sensors for hands-free lighting in hallway
  • Install speakers in multiple zones for distributed audio
  • Create a unique TV treatment for the underwater media room that provides visual interest as well as an additional light source with decorative backlighting
  • Simplify and streamline lighting controls with elegant, engraved keypads
  • Unify all technology control into a single application with multiple interfaces (touchpanel, mobile app etc).

Our approach

Coordination for Complete Design

You are greeted with an LED art installation under bespoke wood paneling that shifts through dynamic color changes to set the perfect mood in a snap. Wall clutter such as large banks of dimmers that distracted from design elements were replaced with intuitive, custom-engraved keypads for an elegant user experience. With a lighting control system and automated shades from Lutron, the homeowner has complete control of light both inside and out- and even when away from home.

A Control4 home automation system brings connected solutions together in harmony- from the audio/video experience to the comfort controls for one-touch convenience. This floating home has two immersive media spaces both above and below water. With whole-home audio throughout, every day can be a party. When you can combine the vision of an amazing interior designer with the harmony of a connected home, the result is pure magic.
