Stancraft:

From Boats to Buildings

Incorporating Human-Centric Lighting and Technology with Entertainment in Mind

Project Background

Stancraft's story began with wooden boat construction and restoration and has since evolved into a custom home construction business. With the goal of creating jobs and offering a superior product to Idaho residents, Stancraft's owner, Robb Bloem, partnered with Wipliance to help bring dreams to reality.

Using luxury solutions for home technology and automation in their custom projects, Wipliance was asked to help the Bloem family create their perfect retreat with elegant technology solutions.

The Challenge

This project had many custom details and a stringent timeline, so we had to finalize many custom details with efficiency. With a beautiful summer ahead, Robb wanted to dial in the space in time to enjoy the home and entertain.

The Goals

To create easy-to-use and dynamic home automation for:

  • Motorized shades that preserve views or offer privacy where desired, including the largest operational window wall in the Pacific Northwest
  • TVs in key areas for entertaining (including outside) and custom TV treatments to allow them to blend with the design
  • Distributed audio so that music can be kept at the desired volume in different areas but carried throughout the property
  • Clearly engraved Palladiom lighting control keypads that offer quick access to lights and shades
  • High-quality LED lighting that offers tunability for different times of day and the ability to individually address each fixture
  • A single control interface allows the homeowner to bring technology together in harmony
In a modern living space, a sleek smart home remote rests on a glass table with a wooden coaster.

Our approach

Careful Attention to Detail

Architect and Designer Eric Hedlund drew inspiration from boat construction materials to honor the family’s history. The focus was on well-designed lighting to enhance the home's atmosphere.

  • Ketra harnesses natural light and adjusts automatically throughout the day.
  • The full color spectrum complements the stunning sunset views, and with one touch, the mood can shift from relaxing to energizing.
  • Individual control of each fixture provides maximum flexibility.
  • The Lutron Homeworks QSX system with Palladiom keypads makes it easy to manage all layers of light with clearly labeled buttons.

Designed for entertaining, this home features carefully placed TVs, speakers, and distributed audio for both indoor and outdoor enjoyment.

  • A motorized TV mount in the kitchen hides the TV when not in use.
  • Samsung Terrace TVs are built for outdoor durability and direct sunlight viewing.

With Control4 home automation, managing the home's systems is simple and convenient.

  • Control intelligent lighting solutions, shades, security, and audio/video from anywhere using the mobile app.
  • No more complicated technology—just easy, enjoyable control.

Testimonials From the Client:

"After working with Wipliance on the house, we have changed almost every single custom home we have (locally) to work with Wipliance. That’s how much of an impact they had on this house."
