Project Spotlight: Commercial AV Upgrade in a Historic Restaurant
Seattle Favorite 13 Coins Gets a Wipliance Overhaul
Since 1967, the 13 Coins restaurant has been a Seattle institution. In 2018, The historic restaurant resettled the establishment in Pioneer Square in the shadow of the city’s two major sports stadiums. Open 24 hours a day, this local favorite is abuzz with activity daily, especially game nights, and is a longstanding special place in the city.
In this blog, we’ll tell you about a commercial audio-video installation we completed in Seattle so you can get ideas for your own Scottsdale business applications. 13 Coins tasked us with two essential requirements: the project had to fit within their specified budget and the resulting installation needed to be easy to use. Keep reading to learn how we did just that.

A new commercial audio-video installation or upgrade can transform your guests’ experience from boring to exciting. 13 Coins Seattle was a project for the proverbial books, keeping historic charm while bringing technology solutions into its new two-level location.
Sit Anywhere to See the Action
The pièce de résistance of the setup is the 165-inch video projection system featuring a motorized drop-down projection screen from Screen Innovations. It will keep customers coming back for the high-definition state of the art technology for years to come.
In addition to the 165-inch screen, 13 other displays are located in the upstairs bar and patio with another 17 downstairs in the area known as the Lower Quarters. The Lower Quarters features four private dining areas that are configurable into one, two, three or four spaces, with the ability to place the same video image on every screen or have each screen show something different.

Simple to Use
Beyond just wowing the socks off of customers, we wanted the 13 Coins management and staff to be able to manage the system simply. “If you’ve ever been to a sports bar and watched staff struggle with multiple remotes to change the game on one display, then you know exactly what 13 Coins wanted to avoid,” said Lee Travis, owner of Wipliance. “It wastes valuable time, which affects the guest experience on several levels, especially in busy periods.”
The two portable, intuitive control touchscreens are powered by a SAVI (Simple Audio Visual Interface) overlay on the Control4 system. All the video screens are easily manageable by staff, improving the guest experience because they don’t need to fumble with multiple cable and TV remotes to change the channel or adjust the sound. If you need more touchscreens in your Scottsdale, AZ, commercial installation, we can make it happen! Wipliance audio-video solutions are always customized to client needs.
Just Add Power
13 Coins needed a dependable video distribution system that was backed by powerful control. Just Add Power’s 3G Ultra HD over IP offers low levels of latency from the source component to the screen while supporting 4K Ultra HD and HDMI 2.0 devices. With the Just Add Power system, 13 Coins now has seamless source switching and uncompressed lossless multichannel audio formats, including Dolby Atmos support.
Any combination of inputs and outputs is possible, and the system is expandable to accommodate additional sources and screens. The system can grow with the restaurant’s needs – futureproofing is built-in. All 11 Comcast HD cable boxes and the local HDMI source used for digital signage are equipped with PoE (power over ethernet) transmitters, and each display or projector is attached to a PoE receiver. The cable boxes are kept in a central rack location in 13 Coins. For your own commercial audio-video installation, you could opt to keep the sources local to the room. The system is flexible to meet your needs, regardless of the option you choose.
More than Screens
In addition to the plethora of screens in the bar, patio, and Lower Quarters of 13 Coins, management and staff are also able to control an IC Realtime security system, Lutron lighting, and audio using two portable, intuitive touchscreens powered by Control4. There’s no need to juggle multiple remotes for each TV behind the bar with this easy to use system. Management and Wipliance’s technical staff can also access every part of the system remotely from apps on their smart devices.
