TV vs Projector: Which is Best For Your Home?

TV vs Projector: Which is Best For Your Home?

With so many choices available today, what are some of the pros and cons of going with a projection setup or a TV screen? Wipliance offers many different solutions from top-name brands such as Sony, Screen Innovations, Samsung and more. Here are some important factors to take note of when considering a video projector vs a television-type video display.

TV vs Projector? There's no easy answer, but the Scottsdale Audio Video specialists at Wipliance have designed and installed countless Home Theater systems in Scottsdale and in the greater Seattle area, and we know the ins and outs of the decision making process when it comes to TV vs Projector. There are many considerations to make when you determine whether you should purchase a television or projection display, it really depends on a number of key factors:

The size of the device you select will depend on the size of the room or environment you will be using it in, your expected viewing distance from the screen, and the way in which you watch.

TV vs Projector: Things to Consider

Projectors make a size impact that TVs can't- which is perfect for the big game, a concert, or your favorite movie. However, it may be too large for everyday viewing of the local news, weather, etc. Your overall viewing habits will dictate what kind of video display, a tv vs a projector, works best for you.

As a cost comparison, the cost of a single television is generally less than a projector and a screen. However, your screen can be reused as projection technology advances, so you do not have to replace your entire home theater every time you want to upgrade.

Video projectors that use lamps as their light source have a limited bulb life. In other words, if you are watching TV on your video projector about four or more hours every day, you might need to replace the light source bulb about every 2 years or so.

Video projectors typically do not have RF cable or antenna connections, like a television has - the only exception are some of the projectors available from Sony, Epson, and LG. However, if your cable or satellite box has either composite, S-Video, component, and/or DVI, or HDMI connections you would be able to hook them up to a video projector.

Without HD or 4K resolution, anything shown on a large projection display may look distorted.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for a replacement for total nightly TV watching, it would be more cost effective to buy a large screen LCD or OLED set rather than a video projector. However, the gap is closing with affordable, stunning HD projection equipment competing for ever-revolutionizing television offerings.
