Recently, we had the pleasure of working on a beautiful home at a country club outside Bellevue, WA. This project was all about the light. What the owners had was a basic lighting layout for code purposes. What we created for them was a complete design and installation of lighting controls, fixtures, and motorized shades.
The result was layers of light that change with the touch of a button. This elevated lighting doesn’t mean rows of switches and wall clutter. Instead, this smart home uses elegant lighting design, hidden controls, and automated shades to create a sleek, modern space with no compromise.

Layers of Light
Layered lighting provides both functionality and artful design. It creates contrast and warmth while highlighting a home’s best features.
We incorporated products from the industry leaders in LED lighting fixtures, designer controls, and indoor and outdoor automated shades for managing natural light and privacy. In most of our projects, we also recommend tunable lighting, which enables you to dial in the precise color, from warm dim to tunable white, or a pop of color.
The elements we implemented created dimensions and layers of light that allowed the home’s interiors and art to literally shine. Some of the lighting solutions included:
- Toe-kick LEDs that glow softly for nighttime navigation
- Kitchen under-cabinet lighting for elegant workspace illumination
- Exposed linear shelf lighting that highlights sculptures and décor
- MP Lighting directional fixtures to spotlight custom glass artwork
- DMF Lighting’s warm-dim Artafex downlights, which shift tone with time and mood
- Proluxe linear LED lighting creates soft illumination throughout the home with uniform brightness
- WAC step lights enhance beauty and safety
Eliminating Wall Clutter
This type of lighting, with its many layers, would normally require banks and banks of switches, detracting from a home’s design and confusing the homeowner. In this home, we incorporated Lutron lighting control, which offers elegant keypads that manage a room’s lighting with a single touch.
For instance, managing the lighting in the kitchen would typically require 14 separate switches and dimmers. We replaced these with two Lutron RadioRA3 Sunnata keypads. These designer keypads are custom-engraved and backlit, enhancing a home’s aesthetic rather than distracting from it.
Fully programmable, varying scenes activate groups of lights and shades. Whether dining, entertaining, or cooking, pressing one button creates the ideal environment.
Customized Automated Shades
To manage natural light and privacy while enhancing comfort, we installed Lutron motorized shades throughout the home, utilizing different fabrics to achieve each room’s specific objectives.
For instance, blackout shades in the bedroom provide complete darkness and privacy. Solar sheer fabrics offer UV protection while preserving the beautiful views. Light filtering fabrics in shared spaces bring in diffuse natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere while reducing glare.
In the outdoors, Progressive Screens motorized patio shades protect the family and guests from stray golf balls while blocking the sun, reducing heat, and preserving the views and airflow.
The entire shading system is integrated into the home’s lighting scenes, providing effortless and coordinated control of natural and artificial light.
Integrated Security and Entertainment
