What Is Micro RGB?
Over the last decade, OLED displays have set the standard for premium picture quality. More recently, Mini LED TVs improved brightness and contrast by shrinking the size of traditional LEDs and increasing the number of dimming zones behind the screen.
Samsung’s Micro RGB technology takes another step forward.
The display uses microscopic RGB LEDs measuring less than one-tenth of a millimeter. Because these LEDs are so small, Samsung can control light output with far greater precision. According to Samsung, the Micro RGB platform delivers four times as many dimming zones as its flagship QN90 Mini LED series.
What does that mean in real-world viewing? Dark scenes reveal more detail. Bright highlights appear more realistic. Instead of large sections of the screen brightening or dimming together, the TV can make much more granular adjustments across the image.
Color That Feels More Like Real Life
One of the most noticeable differences with Micro RGB is color. Those of us who have seen the display in person note its remarkable color volume. Reds, greens, and blues appear rich and vibrant without looking exaggerated or artificial.
Samsung claims the TV can cover 100% of the BT.2020 color gamut. “Color gamut” simply refers to the range of colors a display can reproduce. Think of it as a painter’s palette. The larger the palette, the more shades and subtle color variations the artist can create. A wider color gamut allows sunsets to appear more nuanced, landscapes more lifelike, and films to look closer to what directors intended during production.
More Than a Movie Screen
The 115-inch Micro RGB isn’t just built for movie lovers. Its 144Hz refresh rate makes it an excellent option for gaming, delivering smoother motion and more responsive gameplay. Samsung’s Glare-Free matte finish also helps minimize reflections, which is a game-changer in rooms with large windows or ambient light.
The display is powered by Samsung’s new RGB AI processing engine, designed to manage the enormous amount of image data required by the Micro RGB backlighting system while enhancing picture quality in real time.
And when the TV isn’t in use, Samsung’s Art Store allows you to display curated artwork, photography, and digital collections that transform the screen into a design feature rather than a large black rectangle.
